The loss of person’s teeth is a very serious problem that can have severe consequences. Tooth loss can be caused by many factors, including excessive tooth decay, gum disease and mouth injuries. If left untreated, missing teeth can result in the deterioration of the jawbone, loss of facial structure, unwanted tooth shifts and bite imbalances.

When tooth loss occurs, dental implants serve as a viable treatment option. The process involves surgically inserting a titanium metal framework into the patient’s jawbone so artificial replacement teeth can be added. The titanium framework is specifically designed to hold crowns, bridges or dentures securely in place. Because dental implants conduct the same functions of natural tooth roots, most people with dental implants say that their replacement teeth feel exactly like their original ones.

The dental care experts at Bergenfield Dental focus on two types of dental implants. These are endosteal implants and all-on-four implants.

Endosteal Implants

Endosteal implants can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth. Installing an endosteal implant requires two separate minimally-invasive surgeries. The first surgery involves inserting a foundation into the patient’s jawbone. After a recovery time of four to six weeks, the patient will be ready for the second surgery, which consists of installing a supporting post to the initial foundation. Once the second surgery is finished, the patient will be able to have a crown, bridge or denture installed as needed.

All-On-Four Implants

All-On-Four Implants are used when a patient is missing their entire set of top or bottom teeth. This type of implant allows an entire arch of prosthetic teeth to be supported using just four strategically-placed titanium implants. While endosteal implants utilize a supporting post to secure prosthetic teeth, all-on-four implants allow a set of dentures to be directly attached to the implants themselves. Because of this, all-on-four implants can be completed in just one minimally-invasive surgery.

Teeth In A Day

Teeth in a day is a special type of dental implant that allow the patient to walk out with a new tooth or a new set of teeth in just one day. Unlike endosteal implants that require multiple operations, teeth in a day implants can be conducted in just one minimally-invasive surgical procedure. In some cases, the teeth in a day procedure can take place immediately following a tooth extraction.

After the implant has been installed, the patient will be fitted with a temporary restoration so they can walk out of our clinic with a brand-new tooth or multiple teeth. This temporary restoration is designed to hold the patient over while a custom tooth or a custom denture is created in a dental laboratory using impressions of the patient’s own teeth. Once the customized tooth or denture is ready, the patient will revisit our clinic to have the temporary restoration removed and the permanent tooth or denture installed.
