An alternative to traditional metal braces, Invisalign clear aligners are designed to correct crooked or crowded teeth, while also closing gaps and fixing overbites. Invisalign treatment involves wearing a series of custom-fit plastic aligners for a minimum of 20 hours per day until the desired results are obtained. The current plastic aligner will be replaced with a new one approximately every two weeks, slowly adjusting the positioning of the teeth over time. In most cases, Invisalign treatment can be completed in one to two years.
Invisalign provides many advantages over regular braces. The aligners are transparent, making them very discreet and virtually invisible. Because they are removable, the wearer has the freedom to eat and drink anything they would like during treatment, while also making no adjustments to their regular oral hygiene practices. Their ability to be removed at any time also makes them very easy to clean and maintain. Invisalign aligners are also much safer than metal braces for individuals who participate in contact sports.
Certain dental issues such as severely rotated teeth and large spacing issues cannot always be fixed using Invisalign. Also, since Invisalign can be removed at any time, taking the aligner out too often and not wearing it enough may prevent the desired results from being achieved. These drawbacks aside, many patients find that Invisalign treatment provides exactly what they are looking for in terms of orthodontic treatment.
