Why are X-rays needed?
Often, many cavities between teeth can only be detected with low-radiation dental X-rays. These cavities may not be evident otherwise, and if left undetected and untreated, may cause extensive damage to the tooth and nerve. At Bergenfield Dental Associates, we've invested in state-of-the-art X-ray units which use very low, safe radiation for precise X-rays.

What does it mean when my gums bleed when I brush and floss?
This a sign that Periodontal Disease is present and needs to be treated. This is what leads to tooth loss.

Why is a periodic exam needed?
According to the American Dental Association, it is recommended to receive a professional dental examination every 6 months:
- To detect any changes in the teeth and gums
- To prevent a small cavity from getting bigger
- To check for any mouth/gum cancers early

How often are cleanings needed?
Very often, cleanings are recommended every 6 months. However, sometimes it is very necessary to receive cleanings every 3-4 months, depending on the patient's gum condition, and the amount of tartar and plaque accumulation.
